Question of the Day: Groceries

I feel like I don't do enough of these Question of the Day's, and I always leave hearing people's responses. So, here goes another one.
As a New Year's Resolution, I decided it was important to start watching where our money goes.

To be honest, I don't look at the account as much as I should, and I probably could save a lot of money if I budget things. I know most of our money goes towards groceries though. We eat pretty well, okay...we eat great! I can't help it, I love to grocery shop.

So, my question to you is...How much do you budget on groceries and cleaning products a month?

Michael and I have started meal planning, so it helps when we can make meals from items we already have. That's become our goal - to need to buy at few items as possible for the week's meals. I'd say we spend $150 on average per visit, but that's including Pull-Ups and wipes and a crap ton of milk that we drink!

I have my seperate "budget" account, which we have set up to draft $250 a week in to. So that's $1000 a month. We too like to eat pretty well - fresh meats and veggies. But that's a budget for 4. With two bottoms to put in diapers, which adds up fast! (Not to mention I usually sneak in a trip to Hobby Lobby or Joann's on that too. Shhh... ;)

We started using www.mint.com to track our expenses. It is a totally safe and secure site. Trust me, my hubby is an IT guy. I actually blogged about this recently. http://purplebookbloggingmommy.blogspot.com/2011/01/big-changes-for-my-family.htm

But on mint.com you can set up a budget and it will automatically track your expenses and put them with the budgets you set up on there. Last year we spent 17k on food! Awful! We won't be doing that again and we are watching it now. Hope that helps! Love your blog! I have it on my blogroll and I stalk it regularly. J/k lol

I don't really have a budget, but I spend about $100-$150/week on groceries and cleaning products. So I'd say we spend roughly $600/month. There are 3 of us and we only eat out a few times a month and Ran works from home, so that's a lot of food! I could probably save a lot of money if I cut coupons, but I'm lazy!

for the two of us...we budget $650 a month and that is about the perfect amount for us. Every once in awhile it is closer to $675 but usually $650 does it for us. We eat well too. My husband is a health fanatic!

Not including the other things I get from the grocery store (diapers, wipes, laundry detergent, ect), for the three of us we spend about $125 every week-10 days. And we really like food too :)

BUT There was this special on TLC about couponing (it's a verb now) where people got their entire bill covered by coupons. It was ridiculous.

I love seeing all the responses to these answers! I'd say too that about $150 of my "mommy" budget actually goes to food/diapers/cleaning supplies. And the leftover for each week goes towards all the "extras" - doctor copays, lunch dates with the girls, $$$ for Knox's school things, craft supplies, birthday gifts, etc. There's ALWAYS something! I'm the one who actually asked James to set up the seperate budget account. I need firm boundaries! Haha :)
